Johnny Manziel’s wild Twitter ride comes with definitive football decision

The recent return of Johnny Manziel to social media has been quite a ride — and it’s one that apparently has nothing to do with returning to the football field.

Manziel made headlines on Friday when he tweeted at XFL commissioner Oliver Luck, pushing for a chance to play in the fledgling league. Manziel then deleted his account, but returned on Saturday with a football message that goes beyond the XFL.

“Have zero desire to play any football these days. Just love stirring up controversy,” Manziel, 27, wrote on Twitter.

“Just trollin,” Manziel added.

The former Heisman Trophy winner could give the XFL a chance at more sustainable ratings after the television numbers dropped significantly between Weeks 1 and 2, but they have shown little public interest in him and he has mocked the league in the past.

Manziel busted out of the NFL amid alcohol and league issues and has not resembled the star he was in the XFL in brief opportunities in the CFL and AAF. Manziel split with the CFL under murky circumstances, which paved his way to the Memphis Express of the AAF. After he played in two games, the league folded.

It could be the last time he plays football in a professional league.
