Michael Jordan jokes about ‘Crying Jordan’ meme during Kobe Bryant memorial

A tearful Michael Jordan brought a moment of levity to the somber memorial for Kobe Bryant on Monday when he joked about the “Crying Jordan” meme.

Tears streamed down the NBA legend’s face as he paid tribute to Bryant, prompting him to tell the capacity crowd at Los Angeles’ Staples Center that he was ready to become “another crying meme.”

“Now [Kobe’s] got me … I got to look at another crying meme for the next…,” Jordan trailed off as the crowd erupted in laughter and cheers.

“I told my wife I wasn’t going to do this because I didn’t want to see that for the next three or four years,” Jordan, 57, continued.

“This is what Kobe Bryant does to me.”

An image of Jordan’s red-eyed and tear-soaked face from his 2009 Basketball Hall of Fame induction speech has become an internet sensation over the last decade.

It’s one of the web’s most popular memes, and was even referenced by former president Barack Obama when awarding Jordan the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.

Two of Jordan’s five kids, sons Marcus and Jeffrey, each tweeted about the meme’s longevity in 2016, according to knowyourmeme.com.

The legendary Chicago Bulls player also has twin 6-year-old daughters named Victoria and Ysabel with wife Yvette Prieto. He has an older daughter, Jasmine, from his union to Juanita Vanoy, the mother of Marcus and Jeffrey.
